Passing of Larry Donaghey
by Rich Salmeri

Our teammate and friend Larry Donaghey passed away yesterday at a hospice facility in Auburn.
The Cal Expos, managed by Gary Stonebrook, is looking for some Father/Sons to play in AZ this year.  We lost 3 father/son combinations, so looking for some replacements.  Dates of arrival in AZ are Oct 23rd, with games starting on Oct 24th thru Oct 26th, and if we make the Championship game, it is on Sunday Oct 27th.  So a late flight out on Sunday insures we have players.  Fees are as follows:  MSBL players are $170 and Non-MSBL players are $196.  If interested, contact me, Gary Stonebrook, at 916 380-7084.
Father/Sons needed for Arizona
The last time I saw Larry is when he was hit by a line drive in the face while taking a lead from first base a couple years back.  Larry reached out to me at the end of last year with a few games left. He asked if he could come out to play with us and close out the season. I cleared it with Alan and Ken and He came out and played well. He looked good at the time and was in remission from stage four prostate cancer.  After the last game we exchanged emails and Phone numbers and I would contact him when the time came to get the 2019 season together. He told me then that he didn't plan that far ahead since he was in stage four.   He actually told me that he didn't think he would be around to play again. Unfortunately he was correct. So think about it, Here is a guy knowing that his time is limited and all he wanted to do was play baseball with his friends one last time. I am so happy we could abligh him .
I would like to thank Alan Van Ness and Ken Jungsten for allowing  Larry to play with us and waiving his fee. Losing a teammate or friends always puts things in perspective, here we are in our sixties, seventies and even our eighties and we still come out on a baseball field in our uniforms just like when we were kids.

Let's savor every moment, I know I do.

Rest in Peace Larry.
