By now you all know that the summer league schedule is posted on the website. That can be a very frustrating task when considering all the variables. As much as we try to accommodate each team unfortunately that cannot always happen. David Whitesel our scheduler did a great job fitting 540 games on 5 baseball diamonds. This season we will return to Renfree Field so please remember you won’t have access to the park or diamond until 5:30pm and the lights go out at 11pm sharp so the 8:30pm game needs to start on time and that means so does the 6pm game. The key word there is hustle on and off the field. At Davis Playfields park don’t try to access the diamond before 6:30pm because the diamond will not be open until then. As always please respect all the facilities we play at.

We had to make some changes within the National division primarily because there are some age differences (35’s vs. 45’s-50’s) and consequently there are some back to back games with the same team that occur more frequently than we would like. The SMSBL Board will be reviewing the outcomes after the season and future divisions may depend on previous performance although age as a factor must also be considered versus competition.

The good news is that the City of Sacramento approved our lease with them through the year 2015. Previous leases were for 2 years but our commitment to the McAuliffe complex, our members, and the improvements we have instituted over the years convinced them to extend us longer. You will also see an improvement coming in the parking lot during the season with the installation of new and better lighting. The work will begin within the next few weeks.

In closing don’t forget to frequent the snack bar, have a great baseball season, have fun, and contact any board member when you have comments, questions, and concerns but please not on nights when we are playing. We would prefer an email or phone call. In addition, if you have some ideas we haven’t thought about consider volunteering for a board position and or helping out the league in general.
